5 Critical Mistakes Made When Driving a Turbocharged Vehicle
If you drive a turbocharged vehicle, you have probably heard some of the following advice: Wait after starting the engine, do not rev the engine too high, do not switch the engine off immediately when parking, disable the start-stop system...
But which of these are actually necessary?
In reality, the problem is often not the advice itself, but the way it is presented as a rule that applies to every situation. Switching the engine off immediately after a long and high-speed drive is not the same as parking the vehicle after a calm drive in the city. Likewise, constantly disabling the start-stop system in a modern turbocharged engine is not, in itself, a necessity.
When driving a turbocharged vehicle, what matters is not following a few memorized rules, but understanding when and how the engine is being put under stress.
